Lizdeika’s Rap Legends

“Lizdeika’s Rap Legends” is a musical performance for children and young audiences in which Lithuanian legends meet contemporary theatre, live music, and rap.

During the performance, theatre actors and the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra share the stage. The orchestra is not merely a musical accompaniment. The musicians become full participants in the performance – they play, act, interact, and together with the actors and the audience create a vivid world of Lithuanian legends. There is no strict boundary between the stage and the audience, between theatre and concert, or between the legends of the past and the world of young people today.

The performance tells the legends of Lizdeika’s birth, Gediminas’ dream, Vytautas’ horse, the love story of Sigismund Augustus and Barbara Radziwiłł, the magic of Twardowski, and St. Anne’s Church. Yet the most important question is not only what happened in the past, but what these legends mean to us today.

Three young people dream of becoming stars and creating a legend of their own. Together with them, the audience travels through Lithuanian history, learning not only to remember it, but also to experience it. Most importantly, the performance asks whether each of us can become a legend of our own time and what we should do in our lives to make our story worth telling to others.

“Lizdeika’s Rap Legends” brings together theatre, live music, rap, and Lithuanian cultural heritage, inviting children not only to watch the performance, but also to help create it – to think, sing, rap, and discover their own connection with Lithuania.
