About performer
Her repertoire brings together the traditions of opera, musical theatre, film music, and popular music performance. This open approach to music became a hallmark of classical crossover*, establishing Brightman among the most distinctive voices of the genre, while the most beautiful melodies she performs have continued for decades to captivate audiences on the world’s greatest stages with their expressive vocals, theatricality, and emotional power.
Behind many of these timeless works lie unique stories. Andrew Lloyd Webber created the role of Christine in the musical The Phantom of the Opera specifically for her voice, and the music from this production became one of the most recognisable scores in musical theatre history. Ennio Morricone’s Nella Fantasia, born from the theme of the film The Mission, and the song Time to Say Goodbye, performed as a duet with Andrea Bocelli, became among the best-known works bridging the worlds of classical and popular music.
* Classical crossover is a musical genre in which traditional elements of classical music are combined with styles from popular music. The term became widely used in the 1980s and includes both classical performers interpreting popular songs and popular music artists performing works in a classical style.
