The Vilnius Piano Festival continues its tradition of introducing the audience to the latest news of world piano competitions, and this year’s closing concert will feature Spanish pianist Martín García García, who won one of the world’s most prestigious piano competitions in Cleveland in 2021. The competition has been running since 1975 and has launched careers of the world-renowned pianists such as Angela Hewitt and Jean-Yves Thibaudet. In August 2021, 24-year-old pianist Martín García García joined the world’s elite of musicians as the winner of the 2021 Competition, with a prize of as much as $75,000. In the pianist’s own words, this victory meant a great deal to him because it came after almost two years of stagnation, after two years of living without public concerts, without the opportunity to perform in public. This victory has opened the door for the pianist to make the prospective debut at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2022 and to a recording contract with Steinway & Sons.
