Vilnius University Chamber Orchestra Concert 'Christmas Eve'

On the second day of Christmas, December 26th, at 6:00 PM, the Vilnius University Chamber Orchestra invites residents and visitors of the capital to a traditional Christmas concert, 'Christmas Eve', taking place at St. John's Church, Šv. Jono St. 12, Vilnius.

The festive concert program will feature familiar pieces that guarantee an uplifting holiday mood, as well as the Lithuanian premiere of the enchanting Concertino by 20th-century French composer Jean-Michel Damase. This captivating work, highlighted by its harp melodies, will be performed by harpist Giedra Julija Tutkutė alongside the orchestra. Soloists Rokas Skarulskis (cello) and Milda Drejerytė (soprano) will also join the performance.

'Jean-Michel Damase’s Concertino is characterized by a graceful melodic style, blending classical music structures with modern harmony and melodic solutions reminiscent of French Impressionist compositions. This intricate piece offers the soloist an opportunity to showcase both technical skill and artistic sensitivity. Concertino stands out with its joyful and light emotional palette, energy, and melodic richness, creating a playful atmosphere that will pleasantly surprise the audience', - says Modestas Jankūnas, artistic director of the Vilnius University Chamber Orchestra.

Founded in 1979, the Vilnius University Chamber Orchestra has become an integral part of Lithuania's musical life over more than four decades. The orchestra performs not only in major Lithuanian cities but also in various European cities and even far-flung corners of the globe, from Mexico to Beijing. Its repertoire spans a wide range, from Baroque masterpieces to classical, romantic, and modern works.

The Christmas concert at St. John's Church is a unique opportunity to enjoy the masterful artistry of the Vilnius University Chamber Orchestra, the charm of French music, and the festive spirit of the holiday season.
