Taika Kontrapunkte
Event information
Eighty years after the Second World War, we gather not only to remember history, but also to celebrate our freedom, honoring those who fight for it today in Ukraine and elsewhere. The movements from J. S. Bach’s Second Suite for solo clarinet – Prelude, Sarabande, and Minuets reveal the eternal striving for beauty and harmony. F. Poulenc’s Invitation to the Castle for clarinet, violin, and piano breathes with theatrical playfulness, gentle humor, and inventive dialogues between the instruments.
Olivier Messiaen composed his Quartet for the End of Time while a prisoner of war in 1941. The movements first performed in the camp barracks – The Crystal Liturgy, Praise to the Eternity of Jesus, Dance of Fury, for the Seven Trumpets, Praise to the Immortality of Jesus today resound as a manifesto of faith, hope, and inner freedom. This music invites us to experience a moment of peace and reflection against the backdrop of today’s unrest.
