About performer

Mindaugas Bačkus is a versatile musician who has tried his hand at various artistic endeavours: he was one of the pioneers of the revival of the Baroque cello tradition in Lithuania. He is the artistic director of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and has presented a wide range of concert programmes for audiences of different tastes.

CAMERATA SOLARIS Šiauliai City Symphony Orchestra String Group

The Šiauliai Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1989 and was the third chamber orchestra in Lithuania after the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (1960) and Kaunas Chamber Orchestra (1970). The Šiauliai Orchestra was founded in 1958 by the pedagogue and composer Liudas Andriulis and restructured on the initiative of Jonas Lamauskas to Šiauliai Chamber Orchestra.  Since 2005 the orchestra has been led by Boris Traubas, an artist of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the Naujalis Symphony Orchestra. From 2007 to 2016 the orchestra was led by Jonas Janulevičius, conductor of Kaunas State Music Theatre. Since 2016, the orchestra has been led by the talented conductor of the younger generation Ričardas Šumila.

On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the ensemble, Vilhelmas Čepinskis, one of the most famous virtuosos of today, became the artistic director and conductor of the Šiauliai Chamber Orchestra, and in July 2021, on his initiative, the orchestra changed its name to ‘Camerata Solaris’. In 2025, with the support of the Mayor of Šiauliai, Artūras Visockas, the CAMERATA SOLARIS Šiauliai City Symphony Orchestra was founded. With this historic event, the symphony orchestra's string section was born, preserving and continuing the tradition of chamber music, but expanding its capabilities by adding the variety and grandeur of a symphony orchestra. The new orchestral ensemble combines the closeness and warmth of a chamber orchestra with the ambition of a symphony orchestra, aiming for the highest level of musical performance. The artistic director and conductor of the orchestra is Vilhelmas Čepinskis, the concertmaster is Jūratė Stakvilevičienė, and the patron of the orchestra is the Mayor of Šiauliai Artūras Visockas.
