SUN ON THE RAILS

Let’s imagine that there is a train that could take us back to the days of our youth, if only for a moment.

It would have a carriage of past personal experiences for every one of us – dreams that were cherished back in the day would come to life and lift us up with their sensual melodies. These melodies would bring back the loveliest moments of our lives, captured by the words of the best Lithuanian poets.

It’s going to be a special evening indeed – full of real music and heartfelt emotions. You will have a chance to listen to the songs featured on Vygantas Kazlauskas and Tomas Varnagiris’ vinyl record SUN ON THE RAILS.

The title of the album and the overall atmosphere of the concert were inspired by a poem by Paulius Širvys. However, the programme will also feature the words of other legendary authors – Vytautas Mačernis, Robertas Danys, Vilius Dinstmanas and Vainius Bakas – wrapped in a musical journey.

The common denominator used as the inspiration by all these poets of different eras is the world of a young man’s feelings, the search for existential meaning and love. Thanks to professional and talented musicians, these texts have gained powerful wings and evolved into an unforgettable must-see spectacle.

Songwriter Vygantas Kazlauskas has been creating music based on the poems of the most famous Lithuanian poets and performing with a team of talented musicians for almost 40 years now. The artist has released 10 CD albums and one vinyl album, gives regular solo performances in Lithuania, and participates in festivals abroad. His songs are well known both to radio listeners and television viewers, and he also has participated in various TV musical projects.

Vygantas’ work has been inseparable from the poetry of Paulius Širvys – from his very first songs to the latest vinyl record SUN ON THE RAILS, released as a result of a team-up with the famous Lithuanian guitarist Tomas Varnagiris.

In his native city of Vilnius, Vygantas Kazlauskas is also known as a productive director. His creative journey involves more than 50 events, including the opening of the World Lithuanian Olympic Games, the Latin American DanceSport World Championships, Lithuanian Song Celebrations and Lithuanian Schoolchildren’s Song Celebrations.

In 2007, Vygantas Kazlauskas was awarded the St Christopher Award for his initiatives and creativity.
