Noam Lemish is a pianist, composer, and educator whose music spans jazz, contemporary classical, and global traditions with an adventurous, boundary-blurring spirit. Based in Toronto, he serves as Associate Professor and Jazz Area Coordinator at York University and is widely recognized for his inventive approach to composition and improvisation.
His most recent album, Twelve, earned a 2024 JUNO nomination for Jazz Album of the Year (Solo). The project features six expansive works for chamber jazz orchestra, highlighting Lemish’s gift for weaving long-form structures, lyrical writing, and inspired improvisation into a unified, expressive sound world.
Lemish leads and co-leads a variety of ensembles, including his long-standing quartet and several cross-cultural collaborations that bring together musicians from diverse backgrounds. His projects often explore the meeting point between composed and improvised music, pushing jazz vocabulary into fresh territory.
An active performer for more than two decades, Lemish has shared the stage with influential artists such as Sheila Jordan, Julian Lage, Billy Hart, Dayna Stephens, and many others. His artistic journey has taken him around the world—including a memorable period teaching and composing in Bhutan, where he was commissioned to write a work for the King’s 30th birthday—reflecting his deep curiosity and commitment to musical exploration.
Thoughtful, imaginative, and always evolving, Noam Lemish continues to carve out a distinctive place in today’s creative music scene.
