Marijampolė Drama Theatre’s comedy "I Am a Doctor"
Event information
Director Žilvinas Beniušis presents *I Am a Doctor*—a production that offers a contemporary, humor-filled interpretation of a classic Molière comedy.
The plot tells the absurd story of Sganarelle, a simple banana seller whom his wife deceitfully passes off as a miracle-working physician. Upon arriving at the home of the wealthy Géronte, and possessing absolutely no medical knowledge, he begins to "treat" everyone—using absurd methods and a made-up Latin—who values fine words over reality.
In the hands of director Ž. Beniušis, this Molière classic—reimagined through the rhythms of contemporary clowning and circus arts—transforms into an open, spirited, and energetic spectacle. Bursting with physical humor and color, it is a performance for those who crave quality laughter, masterful acting, and sharp social irony.
*I Am a Doctor* serves as a reminder that the theater is a place where we are invited—if only for a moment—to "take off our masks" and laugh at our own desires, greed, and the urge to appear better than we truly are. *I Am a Doctor* heals not with medicine, but with laughter and a simple reminder: let’s not take ourselves too seriously!
