Event information

“Theatre in a Bag" was established in 1997 in Lviv. From 2004, the group, which actually consists of only two women - artistic director, director, theater critic Irina Volickaja and the actress Lydia Danilchuk - are working in Kiev, Les Kurbas National Theatre Arts Center. During its lifetime, the theater has created over 10 performances that have been successfully showed both in Ukraine and abroad, and “Richard after Richard” has already assessed the international festival prizes. "There are things that I want to speak in a whisper, and there are things that make me want to scream. At some point, I have not seen any other more relevant play than Shakespeare's “Richard III”. However, our Richard’s story begins when Shakespearean Richard’s story ends. The viewer is given the freedom to decide when and where the action takes place: the last night before the death, or maybe where you have to answer for the crimes committed and where an absurd massacre, from which you can go crazy even in the beyond, goes on forever. This is a kind of warning for murderers, politicians, and for hardcore materialists. Whilst maintaining the core ideas and maxims of “Richard III”, we created not a fabula, but a metastory of Shakespeare's play. Therefore, it does not matter who plays the protagonist – a man or a woman. Hamlet or Richard’s problem affects everyone, regardless of gender. "(I. Volickaja) The action starts with the last replica of the play “A horse, the whole kingdom for a horse!” The actress goes in circles, pronounces these words in Ukrainian, English and French and pulls a black heavy bundle. Then throw away the cabbage heads and begin to shred it with sharp knives...
