We invite you to an exceptional evening of hard bop and mainstream jazz, where the complexity and emotional depth of this musical style will be presented by some of the most talented Latvian musicians. Hard bop is a genre that combines the technical mastery of jazz with the deeply moving emotions of blues and gospel, creating music that is both intellectually engaging and emotionally enriching.

This ensemble will perform original compositions by the renowned Latvian pianist and composer Madars Kalniņš, who also plays in the group, along with hard bop classics.

Special attention is given to Indrikis Veitners, who plays the tenor saxophone. One of the most famous saxophonists in Latvia and head of the Jazz Department at the Latvian Academy of Music, his deep knowledge of jazz perfectly complements the mastery of the ensemble members. The tenor saxophone is an integral part of hard bop, and in Veitners’ hands, it becomes a powerful voice capable of conveying a wide range of emotions—from gentle reflection to vibrant energy.

Joining the ensemble is the exceptional trombonist Lauris Amantovs, whose instrument, rarely heard in jazz clubs, will undoubtedly bring a unique flavor to this concert. As one of the brightest trombonists of his generation, Amantovs stands out with his deep, resonant tone. His solo performances are marked by both lyrical beauty and impressive strength, showcasing the trombone’s ability to seamlessly blend melody with rhythm.
