Peter Fleckenstein & Žilvinas Brazauskas "Jazzical Class"

It begins with the baroque Jean-Philippe Rameau and is far from over with George Gershwin's furious "I got rhythm". "Jazzical Class" is Peter Fleckenstein, principal timpanist in the Gürzenich Orchestra, and clarinettist Žilvinas Brazauskas. Since 2013, they have been cultivating the joyful clash of the most diverse genres as a duo. Connected by an entertaining moderation, their program moves from classical music to tango to jazz, from the "Little Green Cactus" to original compositions such as "Wartesaal" and back again with sophisticated arrangements and breakneck improvisations. The joy of playing and the wit with which they use their instruments is unmistakable: in addition to the Bb clarinet, bass clarinet, vibraphone, xylophone, djembe and snare drum, they also use the piano, voices and bodies. The audience can look forward to a rousing mix of classical, jazz and world music!

Žilvinas Brazauskas

A clarinetist and vocalist with a strong artistic focus on chamber music, Žilvinas Brazauskas has collaborated throughout his career with distinguished musicians such as Aleksey Igudesman, Hyung-ki Joo, Julian Rachlin, Sabine Meyer, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, and Elena Bashkirova. He has also performed with renowned string quartets, including Quatuor Girard, Aris Quartett, Sirius String Quartet, and Signum Quartett.
Žilvinas is a member of the ensemble Trio Agora, with which he has released three albums: Youth, Connecting Identities, and Hotel Tango. In November 2025, he joined the Danish chamber music ensemble Ensemble MidtVest.

Peter Fleckenstein

Percussionist Peter Fleckenstein studied at the Universities of Music in Lübeck and Berlin. He further refined his artistry through masterclasses with prominent musicians such as Peter Sadlo, Wieland Welzel, Raphael Haeger, Martin Grubinger, and Emmanuel Séjourné, among others.
In 2013, he was awarded the Cultural Advancement Prize of the Starnberg district. In 2015, he received second prizes in both the “Drumset” and “Snare Drum” categories at the Italy Percussion Competition.
Together with his stage partner, he has performed at numerous festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and has appeared on television and radio. From 2016 to 2018, he was a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic. He is also a scholarship holder of Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and Live Music Now.
