About performer
The festival's opening concert will feature music about trees, forest, stones, butterflies and the beginning of the Earth's evolution, when a tree grows from a seed and trees eventually grow into a forest. The symphonic works will be performed not by a symphony orchestra, but by renowned Lithuanian pianists Guoda Gedvilaitė and Motiejus Bazaras, who have formed a piano duo. They will be accompanied in the concert by young talents from the M.K. Čiurlionis National Art School.
The concert will feature M.K. Čiurlionis' symphonic poem "In the Forest," reminiscent of the forests of Druskininkai, Ottorino Respighi's symphonic poem "Pines of Rome," telling the story of the impressive Italian pines standing in different parts of Rome. W.A. Mozart's music and Robert Schumann's "Butterflies" for solo piano will transport the listener to the embrace of nature and the forest. The impressive cycle "Songs of Nature" by contemporary Latvian composer Selga Mence is the perfect place for freedom of imagination and a journey through the vast expanses of the earth and space.
This year, from May 12-17, we will bring the forest to the Town Hall!
Guoda Gedvilaitė
After studying at the M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (under Prof. Veronika Vitaitė), the pianist perfected her skills in Prof. Lev Natochenny's class in Frankfurt am Main. In 1995, G. Gedvilaitė won the M. K. Čiurlionis International Piano and Organ Competition and went on to win first prizes at other international competitions: N. Rubinstein in Paris (1997), Chopin Gesellschaft in Hanover (1998), Ennio Porrino in Cagliari (2000), and Chamber Music in Frankfurt (2002). The pianist has performed as a soloist and with symphony orchestras in many European countries, North America, and Japan, and has participated in the Gstaad Summer Music Festival in Switzerland, Meraner Wochen in Italy, Guil Durance Piano and Chamber Music Festival in France, G. Kremer's Summer Festival in Lockenhaus, Austria, and made her debut at Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall) in New York in 2000 with her long-time duet partner, violinist V. Čepinskis.
The pianist's has released eight albums, the latest work is a CD of music by J.S. Bach and Baroque masters, recorded with the Genuin company in Leipzig: Bach - Echoes of Eternity. Since 2002, G. Gedvilaitė has been teaching at the Frankfurt am Main University of Music and Performing Arts and leading international masterclasses in Lithuania and Germany. On her own initiative, she has successfully implemented numerous musical projects bringing together musicians from both countries, including Claros Schumann Salon, Piano & Percussion Show, Piano Duo Gedvilaitė–Ejiri, and others. With her creative energy and artistic ideas, the pianist now inspires two music festivals. One of them is Žaižaruojančių žiežirbų žaismas (The Play of Sparkling Sparks), which will invite music lovers to Vilnius Town Hall for the fourth time on May 12–17, 2026. This year's festival theme is music and nature, inviting us not only to listen to the sounds inspired by nature, but also to reflect on the ecological aspects of our environment. Another port of call for G. Gedvilaitė's creative activities is the annual international arts festival "Čiurlionio paliesti" (Touched by Čiurlionis) in her hometown of Druskininkai.
