Event information

On Sunday, December 8th, from 12 PM Karolina, a guide from “Facts of Kaunas”, invites you to one of the five walks in our holiday excursion cycle created by the experienced Kaunas city guides. Excursion starts by International Reformed Church of Kaunas, E. Ožeškienės 41, (opposite the “Pink Elephant” Mural).

As the big holidays of the year approach, many people feel like they are in a marathon. It is often forgotten that the true meaning and significance of Christmas is not abundant feasts, gifts wrapped in shiny paper, and not even a decorated Christmas tree. It is, first and foremost, a celebration of faith – the birthday of Jesus Christ.

During the tour, we will visit several unique and interesting houses of worship full of stories in Kaunas New Town and on the outskirts of the Old Town, and we will find out in which sanctuary in Lithuania the first manger was built. We shall visit not only the Catholic, but also the less visited Reformed sanctuary. And did you know that the war museum was previously… located in a church, too? Also, who are the Minkovsky brothers, after whom one of the streets in Aleksotas district is named, and how are they related to the Kaunas synagogue?

We will also talk about the traditional Advent procession, during which a small sculpture is carried from one of the oldest churches in Kaunas to the Town Hall. It has even become a joke among art students and monks. During the trip from one religious object to another, you will also learn some interesting Christmas facts, for example, where the first restored Christmas trees of Independent Lithuania once stood.

Duration of the walk in the central part of Kaunas – 2.5 to 3 hours. It would be carried out entirely in Lithuanian, but the guides would be happy to answer your questions in English.

The tour will take place in any weather, so please dress warmly. During the tour, we will go inside to warm up wherever church doors open for us. In case of a possible change of your plans, tickets are not exchangeable and the money for them is not refunded, but you can always give your ticket away as a gift or transfer it to other people.
