Crooked Mouth / Honeypaw
Event information
October 17 offers a unique meeting: two folk bands, both birthed in Canada, and both connected to and inspired by Baltic traditions, will perform together at Miesto Laboritorija in Vilnius.
Honeypaw is the duo of Jurgita Zvinklyte and Matti Palonen, formed after Jurgita moved to Toronto, Canada in 2019. Since then, they have been performing traditional songs in Lithuanian, Finnish, and Karelian in Canada and Europe. In this Lithuanian tour, they will be presenting songs from unpublished wax cylinder recordings made by Finnish folklorist A.R. Niemi in 1912, with stops in the villages where they were recorded.
Crooked Mouth is a neofolk group formed by Ian Campbell, originally from British Columbia, Canada, who has lived in Vilnius since 2022. Crooked Mouth explores the liminal sonic spaces where British guitar-ballad folk collides with Baltic instruments, mythology, and ambience, and mixes with the experimentation of the contemporary underground music world, all through the lens of the journey of alchemical self-transformation. This evening will be the first concert of their European tour, starting in Vilnius, stretching all the way to France and back.
