Concert "Bolling" | ERDVĖ
Event information
Event
On February 6 at 7:00 PM, we meet at Erdvė to play some bowling! Or, in other words - let’s play some Bolling!
This much-loved Kaunas venue will become a meeting place for classical elegance and the spirit of a jazz wanderer. We will hear Claude Bolling’s Concerto for Classical Guitar and Jazz Piano Trio - a work that encodes the richness of world music and the playful spirit of improvisation.
Claude Bolling (1930–2020) was a French jazz pianist and composer who united two seemingly distant worlds: classical music and jazz. His famous Concerto for Classical Guitar is like a seven-colored musical mosaic, weaving together Spanish and Mexican rhythms, Baroque grandeur, bluesy freedom, romantic melodies, and even the energetic pulse of African dance.
On stage - an authentic chamber ensemble:
Rokas Jurkus - classical guitar virtuoso, shaping the melodic core while masterfully balancing the discipline of classical tradition with the freedom of improvisation.
Kamilė Zaveckaitė - piano, where jazz expression and classical elegance merge, guiding the music through a constantly shifting landscape of moods.
Bernardas Ručinskas - double bass, a firm yet flexible foundation upon which the entire architectural structure of the music is built.
Rokas Generauskas - percussion, breathing life, momentum, and character into the performance, carrying the music’s dynamics into ever-new dimensions.
This February, the spirit of Bolling will come alive in a concert like a musical game of bowling - notes and instrumental lines rolling down the lane like balls, each time aiming for a different pin… oops - a different climax, a different instrumental solo!
And before aiming for the main set of pins - Bolling himself - the quartet will warm up the audience with tap dancer Eglė Motiekaitė and a free improvisation by guitarist Rokas Jurkus.
