Artis Boriss Trio is an exciting new addition to the Baltic jazz scene, bringing together three long-time collaborators — two Estonian musicians and one Latvian. Known for their genre-blending style, the trio moves effortlessly between traditional jazz, Nordic atmospheres, groove, and swing, creating a sound that is both fresh and rooted in tradition. Currently, Artis Boriss Trio is preparing a brand new program featuring original compositions. This upcoming repertoire promises a rich blend of groove-infused jazz and swinging rhythms, offering listeners an engaging and contemporary take on the classic trio format.
Artis Boriss is a jazz pianist, keyboardist, and producer originally from Riga, Latvia. With a strong foundation in classical and jazz piano from an early age, he graduated from the Riga Cathedral Choir School's jazz department before continuing his studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under acclaimed pianist Kristjan Randalu. Now based in Tallinn, Artis is an active presence in both the Estonian and Latvian music scenes. He works as a producer and performing artist, collaborating with a wide range of notable acts across jazz, pop, and hip-hop, including Siim Aimla, Jason Hunter, Rita Ray, nublu, Ellip, Lexsoul Dancemachine, JULIANNA, Kris Denn, and many others. Whether on stage or in the studio, Artis brings a refined musicality and a contemporary edge to every project he takes on.
Joosep Talumaa is an Estonian bass player whose musical journey began with the guitar but has, for the past decade, been fully devoted to the bass. He earned his bachelor’s degree in jazz music from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and has since become an active and versatile performer. Joosep has played with a wide range of pop and rhythm music artists, appeared in television projects, and is a demanded musician in dance and function bands. He is also part of creative ensembles such as Flow Rea, with whom he recently released the album Pulse. His playing centers on deep groove and tight pocket, while leaving room for freedom and spontaneity that make every performance unique.
Ramuel Tafenau is a drummer and composer active across jazz, pop and theatre music. As a drummer he has collaborated with orchestras as well as Estonian rappers, in addition to performing with many well-known jazz and pop musicians. In 2019 he released his debut album Gather Around, which was well received and introduced his work as a composer. Ramuel studied at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School and completed a master’s degree at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, later adding music production studies at MUBA. His versatility has made him a valued collaborator in a wide variety of musical settings both in Estonia and abroad.
