VB26 presents: Invernomuto performance Triton, Chapter #1 – Embodied.
Vilnius Biennial of Performance Art (VB26)Event information
Triton is a cross-media project by Invernomuto that combines sculpture, sound, and storytelling. Conceived as a sentient, portable device, Triton transforms data from a living ecosystem into sound and light, creating a constantly evolving composition.
The work is attuned to a colony of salamanders living in two ancient rock basins in Pietra Perduca, northern Italy, near the artists’ birthplace. Detectors installed at the site monitor the environment, tracking water levels, light conditions, and the amphibians’ movement, and translate these signals into patterns of sound and light.
As an evolving, multiplatform project, Triton also encompasses a series of listening sessions and sound environments that activate its sonic dimension and expand its narrative.
An installation version of the work was presented in the group exhibition ‘Dune’ at Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts in summer 2026. Connecting Neringa with the amphibian colony in Italy, the installation functioned simultaneously as a musical instrument and an ambient presence, permeating the exhibition and proposing an alternative way of listening to non-human worlds.
Triton, Chapter #1 – Embodied is a special performance version of the work, developed specifically for the Vilnius Biennial of Performance Art. Offering an overview of some of the sonic histories that the project explores or draws inspiration from, it delves into cracked media and cutting-edge experiments in technology, science fiction, surveillance, and background music. The performance will also incorporate the newly created sentient device, representing the ultimate version of this multifaceted project.
Invernomuto is the name under which Simone Bertuzzi and Simone Trabucchi have worked together since 2003. Based in Milan, they develop long-term research projects that unfold across time and space, generating interconnected cycles of work. Recent projects have been presented at the Biennale Musica 2026, Venice; the 18th Lyon Biennale; Haus der Kunst, Munich (2026); SALTS, Basel; e-flux, New York; Performa, New York; Fondazione Prada, Milan; GAMeC, Bergamo (2025); Cabaret Voltaire, Zurich; and Bourse de Commerce, Paris (2024). Their work has also been presented at the 58th Venice Biennale; Tate, London; Liverpool Biennial 2021; Manifesta 12, Palermo; Pompeii Commitment; 58th October Salon-Belgrade Biennial; Villa Medici, Rome; CCS Bard, New York; Alserkal Avenue, Dubai; Nuit Blanche 2017, Paris; OGR, Turin; MAXXI, Rome; MACRO, Rome; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin; HangarBicocca, Milan; and the 11th Venice Architecture Biennale.
The performance is a co-production with Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts.
